Staff Sergeant (Retired) Cody Rice was born in 1985 and in Newark, Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2008 and has two combat tours to Afghanistan in 2009-10 and 2012 serving with the 173rd Airborne Brigade as an Airborne Paratrooper and infantryman. One month into his second deployment he stepped on a mine which took his right foot, rendering him a below the knee amputee. Staff Sergeant (Retired) Rice has been awarded a Purple Heart, multiple Army Commendation medals and multiple Army Achievement medals. He currently resides in Penn Valley, CA where he is pursuing his college degree.
