Corporal (Retired) Nick Salerno was born in 1988 and is from Albany, New York. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2009 and has a combat Tour to Afghanistan in 2010 as an infantryman. Nine months into the deployment his squad was on a night patrol to resupply and he stepped on a pressure plate improvised explosive device rendering him a below the knee amputee. He has been awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Service Ribbon. Corporal (Retired) Salerno resides in Tampa, Florida where he is currently teaching physical education and health at a high school.
