April is Limb Loss & Limb Difference Awareness Month: Celebrating Strength Through Sport

Each April, Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month (#LLLDAM) shines a light on the resilience, strength, and capabilities of individuals living with limb loss and limb differences. It’s a time to challenge perceptions, inspire communities, and celebrate what is possible—not what is missing.

Since becoming a registered nonprofit in 2011, the USA Patriots – formerly known as the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team – have stood at the forefront of that mission. What began as a response to the growing need for continued rehabilitation options for wounded veterans has evolved into a powerful movement that uses the game of slow-pitch softball to restore purpose, build camaraderie, and showcase ability beyond injury.

Through competitive play, youth programming, and community engagement, the USA Patriots demonstrate firsthand that adaptive athletes are not defined by their limitations, but by their determination. Whether inspiring the next generation, supporting children with physical challenges, or representing the resilience of our nation’s veterans, the organization continues to make a lasting impact across the country.

The mission of the USA Patriots is clear: to bring together veteran amputees through sport, promote the benefits of inclusive and therapeutic recreation, inspire communities, and provide ongoing opportunities for service beyond the battlefield.

This April, we celebrate not only awareness – but action, empowerment, and the unbreakable spirit of those who continue to serve as examples of strength in motion.
